Other key initiative undertaken by the bank involves supporting the Gentlewomen’s Relief Association, a sanctuary for elderly women. The Association is presently engaged in crucial maintenance, such as repairing their building’s fence and doors, with significant associated costs. Demerara Bank proudly announces a donation to assist with their repair expenses, demonstrating its commitment to positively impacting the lives of elderly women.

The bank also extended a helping hand to the Dharm Shala Home, an institution providing sustenance, shelter, and clothing to the underprivileged.

Miss Kella Ramsaroop, the Managing Head of Dharm Shala, has sought support for essential remedial works on the building. Recognizing the urgency of essential remedial works on the building, Demerara Bank contributed with the necessary building materials. This initiative reflects the bank’s dedication to ensuring that the underprivileged receive the care and support they deserve.

Moreover, the bank is extending compassion to Miss Petina Augustin, a single parent battling stage 4 cervical cancer and sickle cell disease. With Miss Augustin in dire need of financial assistance for medical costs, Demerara Bank has committed to providing support. By standing beside Ms. Augustin during her challenging journey, the bank reinforces its belief in the power of collective support and compassion for individuals facing personal health battles. In addition to the above initiatives, Demerara Bank’s Mahaica Branch is executing CSR activities to enhance the well-being and development of the community. The branch will lead the painting of the Pavilion at the Mahaica ball field, a hub for numerous cricket competitions. The bank’s staff and community members will join forces to rejuvenate and restore the Pavilion, ensuring it remains a central hub for community activities.

In response to a recent I-news article dated December 25, 2023, detailing the challenging circumstances faced by Miss Anita Lloyd, who found herself in a dire state of need and struggling to meet her daily necessities, the bank felt compelled to extend a helping hand. The report highlighted the additional hardship of Miss Lloyd’s 12-year-old daughter being unable to attend school due to financial constraints. Touched by this poignant situation, the bank took immediate action to alleviate the burden on the family by providing assistance with her daughter’s school expenditures and in order to remain sustainable, the bank has committed to her monthly expenses throughout the school year.  The bank understands the value of education and believes in supporting those facing adversity to ensure a brighter future for all.

Demerara Bank believes that these initiatives are not just fulfilling corporate social responsibility, they are sowing the seeds of hope, compassion, and progress. Together, the bank and the community can create a ripple effect of positive change, fostering a society where everyone has the chance to thrive and lead fulfilling lives.
