Interpol wanted man arrested in Guyana
Vitesh Jamnapersad Guptar, a national of the Netherlands, who is wanted by the International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol) was on Monday arrested by local police at a popular city spot.
Guptar, 50, a businessman of Duke Street, Kingston, Georgetown is wanted by Interpol for aggravated criminal conspiracy aimed to commit international drug trafficking.
Police Headquarters confirmed that he was arrested during an intelligence-led operation.
The News Room understands that Guptar, who operates a boutique here, is allegedly part of one of the world’s largest mafia organizations known as ‘Ndrangheta’.
The organization, the News Room was told is allegedly involved in the smuggling of narcotics in several countries including Brazil and Guyana.
Guptar is wanted for his alleged involvement with the mafia organization, a form of criminal conspiracy, aimed at international drug trafficking.
Apart from his presence in Guyana, the Interpol Red Notice noted that Guptar is believed to have recently traveled to neighbouring Suriname.
The red notice was issued since November 12, 2019.
