Dead: 9-year-old Terensha Pierre
“This happened yesterday afternoon, but she died on her way to Georgetown after 1 pm,” the relative said.
Meanwhile, Regional Commander Himnauth Sawh revealed that the driver of the car was found to be over the legal alcohol limit when a breathalyzer test was done and was allegedly speeding at the time of the accident.
“The young lady was standing in the middle of road, because the road in Mabaruma split into two at that location and as she tried to cross to the other end the vehicle collided with her,” the Commander said.
The young girl suffered serious head injuries.
The driver remains in custody at the Mabaruma Police Station and he will be charged and placed before the court.
