Three arrested following attempts to bribe police in large marijuana find
Police Wednesday night arrested two men following the discovery of more than 9,000 grams of marijuana in a car at Amelia’s Ward, Linden. A third man who attempted to bribe the police to forego an investigation was also arrested.
In custody are Keenin Fraser, a 24-year-old taxi driver, Nacasil Charles, 21, a porkknocker, both of Central Amelia’s Ward, Linden and Seon Easton, a 33-year-old construction worker.
After Fraser and Charles were taken to the Mackenzie Police Station, Easton attempted to offer police ranks $453,000 cash to release the two men.
Police Headquarters in a statement said ranks on mobile patrol observed the car which was travelling from the Kara Kara area.
As the ranks attempted to approach the car, the driver increased his speed.
“The driver of the car (Fraser) then turned into Block 42 and suddenly came to a halt. The driver and another occupant (Charles) in the front passenger seat quickly exited the vehicle and took out two bulky black plastic bags from the back seat,” Police headquarters said in a statement.
As they were about to toss the parcel into nearby bushes, the two men were apprehended.
The bags were searched and they each contained leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis.
While Charles remained silent, Police Headquarters said Fraser replied “officer, we can ‘wuk’ out something.”
Both men were taken to the Mackenzie Police Station. There, the cannabis was weighed and amounted to 9,979 grams.
The three men remain in custody pending charges.
