Marijuana found in vehicles at Itaballi and Mahaicony Police road blocks

Police on duty at Itaballi Police Check Point arrested a man on Monday when he was stopped for a routine check and found with marijuana in his possession.

A 29-year-old Construction worker of South Better Hope, East Coast Demerara and the driver were the only occupants in the vehicle.

A search of the vehicle was requested by the police when a bag that the construction worker identified to be his property was found in the vehicle. Inside the said bag, Police unearthed three transparent pieces of plastic containing a quantity of cannabis.

The suspect was told of the offense committed, cautioned, and arrested.

He was escorted to the Bartica Police Station where the cannabis was weighed in his presence and amounted to 70.1 grams

Meanwhile, also on Monday, a ‘Stop and Search’ operation was conducted at Sarah Public Road, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara.

During the operation, the ranks stopped a silver Toyota Fielder Wagon HC 3486, which was proceeding to Georgetown.  The driver and four occupants were requested to exit the vehicle with their belongings.

Ranks then conducted a search of the vehicle. This search unearthed, a black and green haversack containing three parcels of cannabis wrapped with transparent plastic.

One of the occupants, a 29-year-old  male from Stanleytown, New Amsterdam, Berbice, claimed ownership of the haversack.

He was told of the offense committed, cautioned, and arrested.

The driver and other occupants were searched, but nothing illegal was found on them

The cannabis was taken to the Mahaicony Police Station,   weighed, and amounted to 1,581 grams.
