Disorderly Conduct: Friends arrested at roadblock charged

Two days after they were arrested, three of four friends who behaved disorderly after they were stopped at a police roadblock along the Diamond Public Road, East Bank Demerara were on Wednesday charged.

The men: Paul Daby, Sherwayne De Abreau and Alpha Poole appeared before Magistrate Sunil Scarce at the Diamond Magistrate’s Court.

Daby was charged with five counts of abusive language, disorderly behavior and motor vehicle obstruction. He denied the charges.

De Abreau and Poole were each charged with five counts of abusive language and disorderly behavior.  They too pleaded not guilty and were granted $50,000 bail each.

A fourth friend, Deion Jerrick who was arrested with the men was not charged.

The matters were adjourned to May 31, 2024.

Police Headquarters in a statement said at approximately 21:15hrs, ranks in Regional Division 4B were conducting a ‘roadblock’ exercise at Diamond Public Road when a Land Cruiser bearing registration number, PAE 528 was stopped.

Daby, who was the driver of the vehicle stopped the middle of the road, preventing the free flow of traffic.

He and his friends then became verbally abusive towards the police officers and proceeded to behave in a disorderly manner.

The ranks continued to carry out their duties, and the individuals and vehicle were searched. No illegal items were found.

The four individuals were subsequently arrested and taken to the Golden Grove Police Station for processing. They were later released on $50,000 station bail each.
