Vagrant fatally struck during argument
A man, who Police said was a vagrant, was fatally struck during an argument on Saturday night on Water Street, Georgetown.
Dead is Munilad Persaud called “Roach.” He had no fixed place of abode.
The incident occurred at about 18:35hr, and Police said the suspect, who is a Sales Assistant attached to a prominent business entity, was subsequently arrested.
According to a Police report, the suspect told investigators that he had given Persaud $2500 to help locate his brother, who is drug addict and dwells around the Stabroek Market area.
Persaud’s assistance was sought after efforts made by the suspect to locate his brother proved futile, Police said.
The suspect also related that he would often see Persaud in his brother’s company.
About half an hour after requesting Persaud’s assistance, Police said the suspect related that Persaud returned and informed him that he could not locate his (the suspect’s) brother.
As a result, an argument erupted between the suspect and Persaud.
During the process, Police said the suspect armed himself with a piece of wood and allegedly dealt Persaud a lash to his chest.
Persaud took a few steps forward and fell to the ground.
The suspect then caught a speedboat from the Georgetown Ferry Stelling and journeyed to Vreed-en-Hoop, where he was arrested.
Emergency Medical Technicians were summoned and Persaud was pronounced dead by a doctor attached to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
