Minibus driver killed in early morning collision at Garden of Eden
A fatal traffic accident early Wednesday morning on the Garden of Eden Public Road resulted in the death of minibus driver Keith Caesar. The collision, which took place around 04:30 hrs, involved three vehicles and left several individuals injured.
Minibus (BAE 7146) was being driven by Keith Caesar, 35, from North East La Penitence, Georgetown. Caesar did not survive the crash while motor car (PVV 4095) was being driven by Keyon King, 35, a resident of Hyde Park, Timehri. King is in critical condition at Georgetown Public Hospital and hire car (HD 606) was being driven by Vishnu Basdeo, 30, from Martyrs Ville, East Coast Demerara. Basdeo has been arrested.
According to preliminary investigations, the PVV 4095 was traveling south in the eastern lane of the Garden of Eden Public Road, with HD 606 following in the same direction. The driver of the hire car reported observing the motor car suddenly swerve westward, crashing into the minibus, which was traveling north in the opposite lane at high speed.
The collision caused the minibus to overturn several times, while the motor car spun and subsequently struck the hire car.
Emergency services, including an ambulance, fire service, and two teams of Emergency Medical Technicians, responded to the scene. Caesar was transported to the Diamond Diagnostic Center, where he was pronounced dead. King was taken to Georgetown Public Hospital and remains in critical condition. Basdeo was arrested and taken to the Grove Police Station.
The police are investigating the cause of the accident and the events leading up to the collision.
