Grove labourer charged with arson

Roy Anthony Callendar, a 64-year-old laborer from Grove Housing Scheme, faced serious legal trouble on Wednesday after being charged with setting fire to a dwelling house. The charge comes in connection with an incident on Sunday, August 4, 2024.

According to the allegations, Callendar intentionally set fire to a house belonging to Maria Singh, located at Lot 246 Grove Housing Scheme. The incident was investigated by officers from the Grove Police Station, who subsequently brought the charge against Callendar.

Appearing before Dylon Bess at the Diamond/Golden Grove Magistrate’s Court, Callendar was formally read the charge. He entered a plea of not guilty. Bail was granted for $550,000.

The court has scheduled the next hearing for September 11, 2024, at which time further proceedings will take place.
