Joe Viera Park to set new standard for Caribbean parks; Completion date moved up
The Joe Viera Park is a beloved spot for residents of Region Three, offering a place for relaxation and leisure. The ambitious $12 million project, funded entirely by a grant from China, is the vision of President Dr. Irfaan Ali.
Once completed, the park will feature a range of amenities, including sports facilities with football and basketball courts, a serene pond, a dedicated children’s play area, and an elevated walkway. Additionally, a Guyana/China friendship monument will be installed to celebrate the strong ties between the two nations.
“The project is really to deliver a park that is unmatched anywhere in the Caribbean. I know based on the design the final product will make it an unmatched park,” Indar said.
Despite initial challenges, such as securing affordable sand, the project has overcome these hurdles. Indar emphasized the commitment to accelerating the work.
The Joe Viera Park initiative is one of several government projects aimed at fostering a greener, safer economy.
