A 24-year-old construction worker is now in police custody following a drug bust on the Annai-Lethem Trail, where over three pounds of marijuana were discovered in his possession.
At around 14:00 hrs on Wednesday, acting on intelligence, ranks from the Lethem Police Station intercepted a minibus (#BAD 6117) driven by Andel Awar. The vehicle was carrying six passengers — one Guyanese female and five males, four of whom are Brazilians and one Guyanese.
The driver and passengers were informed of the information received and agreed to a search but requested it be done at the Lethem Police Station due to fatigue and the heat along the trail. The vehicle was subsequently escorted to the station by two detectives.
Once at the station compound, passengers retrieved their belongings, and a search was conducted. During the search, police found three parcels wrapped in transparent plastic in a blue and grey haversack belonging to Sedney Aubrey Johnson, also known as ‘Cooliebai’, of Hope Estate, East Coast Demerara.
The parcels were opened and found to contain leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis. The narcotics were weighed and amounted to 1,478 grams — approximately 3.26 pounds.
Johnson was cautioned, arrested, and remains in police custody as investigations continue.
The bust was confirmed by the Guyana Police Force.
