Accountant critical after Kitty Seawall robbery and stabbing

A 25-year-old accountant is in critical condition after being stabbed during a robbery under arms at the Kitty Seawall in the early hours of Monday.

The incident occurred at about 02:50 hrs and involved two victims, a 25-year-old accountant of Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara, and a 30-year-old accountant of Eccles New Scheme, East Bank Demerara.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the men were walking along the southern side of the Kitty Seawall Road, heading west, when they were confronted by two identifiable males who had been sitting on the seawall. One of the suspects was armed with a knife.

Police said the suspects approached the victims and demanded money. During the confrontation, one of the victims pushed the armed suspect and attempted to flee.

He was chased, fell to the ground, and was stabbed several times.

Both suspects then fled the scene on foot in an eastern direction along the seawall road.

Police responded and escorted the victims to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.

The injured man was examined by a doctor and admitted with a stab wound to the right side of his chest. His condition is listed as critical.

With the assistance of CCTV footage from the Government of Guyana Safe City Initiative, one suspect has since been arrested. He has been identified as a 24-year-old mason of ‘C’ Field, Sophia.

He remains in police custody assisting with investigations, while efforts are ongoing to locate the second suspect.

Investigations are continuing.
