National Stadium prepped for $10M Nitro Kart Clash
The atmosphere at the National Stadium Providence parking lot has reached a fever pitch as the venue for the highly anticipated Nitro Kart Clash opened ahead of schedule this past Sunday.
With over $10M in cash and prizes on the line, the early completion of the track serves as a significant boost for local competitors eager to master the course before the main event on April 18-19.
Transforming a massive parking lot into a professional-grade racing circuit was no small feat as organisers worked late into the night to mark, barricade, and secure the layout, successfully delivering the track a full day earlier than planned.
A spokesperson for the event emphasized the grueling labor involved, noting that the team had to sweep the area multiple times to clear debris from previous stadium events before washing the surface and meticulously laying down tire barriers.
These barriers required a dedicated process of organising, painting, and strapping together before they could be positioned to define the racing lines.
A final high-pressure wash ensured the surface was pristine and ready for high-speed action.
The response from the racing community was immediate. By 16:00 hours on Sunday, the first wave of competitors took to the asphalt, eager to test their machines on the fresh layout.
Organisers expressed pleasant surprise at the turnout, citing the early enthusiasm as a clear indicator that the Nitro Kart Klash is set to be the premier karting spectacle in Guyana’s history.
What truly levels the playing field for this event is the “clean slate” philosophy behind the new design. Unlike permanent tracks where seasoned veterans might hold a home-turf advantage, this temporary circuit forces every driver and rider to start from scratch.
Success will depend entirely on a competitor’s ability to adapt, identify the fastest lines, and develop a winning strategy within the week leading up to the race.
To facilitate this, the venue remains open daily from 15:00 to 20:00 hours, offering ample opportunity for both practice and spectator viewing.
The Nitro Kart Clash is bolstered by a heavy-hitting roster of sponsors, including Banks DIH, AJM Enterprise, KP Jagdeo General Contractors, J’s Supermarket, SCI (Sawh’s Construction Inc.), Precision Service Centre, and Ramchand’s Autobody. This corporate backing ensures a high-production experience for fans and a lucrative reward pool for the winners.
Fans can catch the preliminary action starting Saturday, with gates opening at 13:00 hours for qualifying and free runs.
The intensity peaks on Sunday, with gates opening at 08:00 hours as the official racing programme gets underway.
Admission is set at $3,000 for adults, while children under 12 can enjoy the high-octane festivities free of charge.
