Three Brazilian nationals were charged with Overstay of Person in Guyana following a joint operation conducted by the Guyana Police Force and the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission on Tuesday at Arakaka Backdam, North West District.
The operation targeted illegal gold mining activities in the area, during which the three persons were arrested after checks revealed that they had overstayed the period granted to them in Guyana.
The defendants appeared virtually on Thursday before Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Port Kaituma Magistrate’s Court, where the respective charges were read to them.
Alisson DaSilva Ferreira pleaded guilty to the charge and was fined $60,000 or, in default, four months’ imprisonment. He was also ordered deported.
Jonathan Lima Pinheiro also pleaded guilty and was fined $30,000 or, in default, two months’ imprisonment. He was also ordered deported.
Dione Marcus Ferreira Rodrigues pleaded not guilty and was remanded to prison.
The matter against Rodrigues was adjourned to July 14, 2026.
