Tournament Highlights:

  • The Zhang brothers, Alexander and Nicholas, delivered contrasting performances. Alexander secured a draw against Greenidge in Round Seven, while Nicholas succumbed to Greenidge’s pressure in the final round. Greenidge’s strategic maneuvering forced Nicholas to sacrifice a Knight and ultimately concede defeat on move 41.
  • Pitamber secured a strong victory over Alexander Zhang in Round Eight. After maneuvering for a winning position, Pitamber threatened to capture Zhang’s Bishop, prompting Zhang’s resignation on move 39.
  • A brief presentation ceremony recognised the top three finishers on Sunday, June 30th. Notably, 14-year-old Aditi Joshi claimed the best female player prize.

Top performers in the Grand Prix series will contribute to the qualification system for the FIDE 45th Chess Olympiad in Budapest, Hungary, scheduled for September 2024.
