(Press release from Natural Resources Ministry) – The Ministry of Natural Resources is pleased to announce an oil discovery at the Bluefin well in Guyana’s Stabroek Block, making it the first discovery of 2024.
Located approximately 8.5 kilometres southeast of the Sailfn-1 well, Bluefin encountered approximately 197 feet (60 metres) of hydrocarbon-bearing sandstone.
The well was drilled by the Stena Drillmax drillship in 4,244 feet (1,294 metres) of water.
Bluefin joins the other discoveries made in the prolific Stabroek Block from 2015 to date. The Government of Guyana reaffirms its commitment to prudently managing the nation’s oil and gas sector for the upliftment of all of its citizens.

The News Room understands that three shots were fired; while two grazed Vaughn, the third shot fatally wounded the Police Sergeant.
With this information, his wife Jonnel Singh believes there is more to his death.
The family is now assessing whether the shooting was intentional and premediated.
“Whatever they saying, I don’t believe it because how your own colleague could shoot you [three] times? How could that be an accident?
“I could say it was premeditated because how could you see this man and shoot him [three times]? Your firearm just fire off [three] shots right away? The story ain’t really adding up,” Singh questioned.

Vaughn, 53, was the officer-in-charge of the Saxacalli Police Outpost in Region Seven.
He was part of a joint services operation pursuing prison escapee, Akeem Wong.
The shooting occurred sometime after 17:00 hrs on Tuesday at Karrau, Region Seven. The team was dispatched to the area after information surfaced that Wong was sighted there.
Police Headquarters said Vaughn was “unintentionally fatally wounded” by his colleague, a Police Constable.
Reports reaching the News Room indicate that the Police Constable arrived at the area on a tractor as part of a backup team. Upon arrival, the Constable claimed that his weapon was accidentally fired as he disembarked the tractor.
During an interview with the News Room on Friday, Singh was steadfast in her belief that Vaughn was intentionally shot.
“I would say he was murdered. Is not nothing accidental. Me ain’t see nothing accidental in that. Nothing at all,” she said.
The shooting is being probed by the Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR). While this is ongoing, the Police Constable remains under close arrest
Singh said she last heard from Vaughn Monday night and he informed her he was part of the special operation.
“He working at Sherima Crossing… He told me that they send for him to go on the patrol to look for this criminal,” she said.
During their last conversation, Singh said Vaughn was making arrangements for her to return to their Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo home.
He also spoke to their twin sons.
“He book my flight to come back home… He talk to the two boys and he tell them ‘don’t give mommy no problem. Just be two good boys’ and he tell them how he love them and he cut off the phone,” Singh recalled.
“He didn’t deserve to go down like that… without saying goodbye or set certain things in place,” she added.
The grieving woman is demanding that the authorities thoroughly investigate the matter and that the Constable be charged.
“I would like to see my child father get the justice so that he can rest in peace…he deserve that because he loved his job…He is always there to help anybody,” Singh said.
Vaughn was a member of the Guyana Police Force for more than two decades.
Manpower Design and Strategic Unit will take the next steps towards implementation.
The Unit was established last September and it is expected to provide statistics on areas where more human capacity is needed. Based on a 2021 report from the International Office for Migration (IOM), Guyana needs at least 100,000 skilled personnel for its medium-term development.
Rasul said several areas such as maritime and the education sector have indicated labour is needed.
“The Minister [of Education] told us that they were looking for speech therapists those are people that we can we can begin to tap into, we [also] got requests about finding our source at skills within the music area for Guyana.
“We need captains, we need mates basically, of course engineers, and you don’t have quite a lot of that… but we need specialized skills to deal with those kinds of things,” Rasul said.
“Those are some of the collaborations that we have with the Ministry of Education, training and also finding or encouraging students to pursue new paths basically for some of the shortages that we have,” Rasul explained.

« Dès mes premiers contacts en 2008 avec Jamil, lors du passage de trois cyclones qui ont saccagé la région sud du pays, j’avais tout de suite appris à apprécier son sens du patriotisme et son engagement à servir la communauté nippoise », a-t-il encore ajouté avant de témoigner que dans l’exercice de ses fonctions de Délégué départemental des Nippes assignées lors de sa courte présidence en 2016, Jamil s’est illustré comme digne et distingué représentant du pouvoir exécutif.
Jocelerme Privert a tenu de rappeler également qu’avec le départ prématuré de Jamil Vincent, le département des Nippes vient de perdre un authentique fils qui, avec honneur et dignité, s’était mis à son service.
Via cette même note, le prédécesseur de Jovenel Moïse a présenté ses sincères sympathies et toute sa solidarité à la famille du défunt, ses anciens collaborateurs, son compagnon de combat en l’occurrence l’honorable Sénateur Francenet Dénius et ses alliés.
Faut-il mentionner que Jamil Vincent était Père de cinq enfants, un homme politique qui a laissé son empreinte sur l’émergence du plus jeune département géographique d’Haïti.
Les funérailles de Jamil Vincent seront chantées ce samedi 16 Mars 2024 sur la place d’armes de l’Asile et des cérémonies d’hommage seront organisées ce vendredi 15 Mars à Port-au-Prince et dans la diaspora.
