
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a Herstelling, East Bank Demerara resident who was burnt to death on Friday morning.
Police Headquarters reported that 58-year-old Sundar Nandkishore of Herstelling Sea Dam was a bedridden diabetic who lived alone and was a “heavy smoker.”
According to the Police report, the man’s daughter, who lives nearby, saw smoke at his house and sent her brother to investigate at around 11:30 hrs. The brother then discovered Nandkishore lying on his bed which was engulfed in flames.
An alarm was raised and neighbours formed a bucket brigade and extinguished the fire. Emergency Medical Technicians arrived later and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The body was escorted to the Memorial Funeral Home, awaiting an autopsy as further investigations are underway.
