Agri. Minister responds to allegations made in Facebook video

See below the full statement from the Minister of Agriculture, Zulfikar Mustapha:

I note with profound concern several Facebook posts (video), laced with nasty propaganda, made under the name Team Mohamed’s, by Mr. Azruddin Mohamed, who was sanctioned by the United States of America, regarding my son and me. Mr Mohamed’s recent post on December 21, 2025, on the said page, regarding my home situated at Bloomfield, Berbice, clearly attempts to insinuate that the said property was acquired through corrupt means on my part.

The assertions made in the said video are completely untrue, fallacious, and devoid of merit, and could only have been contrived to harm my reputation, expose me to hatred, contempt, ridicule and damage my image as a Minister of the People Progressive Party’s Government.

I hereby declare that the construction of the said house at Bloomfield, Berbice, was funded and financed exclusively through a mortgage obtained from Demerara Bank Limited and personal savings accumulated through lawful employment. I have lived a life dedicated to serving the people of Guyana, and my career now spans over 35 years. I am not a stranger to public life, having served as a Member of Parliament for many years, Regional Chairman for Region 6 for five (5) years and a Minister of the People’s Progressive Party Government from 2020 to date.

I have been up to date with my declarations with the Integrity Commission, and I wish to assure my supporters and the general public that all my assets were acquired through lawful means. I can account for every asset I own.

Further, I have also noted his post on the said Team Mohamed’s page on December 14, 2025, which purports to paint my son, Javed Mustapha, as corrupt. The allegations made therein were false, misleading and designed to harm the reputation of my son’s image as a businessman and a medical Doctor. I have invested in my son’s education, and his entrepreneurial path has been nothing short of maintaining a high standard of accountability, transparency, integrity, and professionalism.

Mr. Mohamed’s hypocrisy is glaring and must not be countenanced. Instead of pretending to be the guardian of corruption, he should be addressing, in public, his own corrupt practices. Clearly, these nasty attacks on my family and me were designed to divert attention from his own corrupt practices.

It is clear that Mr Mohamed will continue to spew these unsubstantiated allegations, as his intent appears to be to attack my family and me personally with this nasty propaganda. In particular, his baseless attack on my son is likely to continue. My son, having learned of his unlawful and unethical conduct, decided to distance himself from him. Undoubtedly, this decision has led to a personal vendetta against my son by Azruddin.

I am issuing this statement to inform the interested public of our innocence regarding the purported allegations made in the Facebook posts and to clarify that his attacks on us were personal. Therefore, we will not engage in a tit for tat with him.

I have instructed my lawyers to review the posts with a view to taking any necessary legal action to protect myself and my family from further malicious and erroneous publications.

  • Suryavanshi, 14, makes history with record-breaking List A century

Suryavanshi, 14, makes history with record-breaking List A century

Indian teenager Vaibhav Suryavanshi made history when he became the youngest player to score a century in men’s List A cricket.

Aged 14 years and 272 days, he smashed his way to three figures off just 36 balls in Bihar’s Vijay Hazare Trophy opener against Arunachal Pradesh.

Suryavanshi also broke South Africa great AB de Villiers’ 64-ball record for the fastest 150 in men’s List A cricket, reaching the milestone in 59 deliveries, before being dismissed for 190 off 84 balls.

It was one of three centuries made by Bihar players as they posted a mammoth 574-6 – the highest total in men’s List A cricket, which is the highest form of limited-overs matches, including one-day internationals – and only the second time a team has passed 500 in a 50-over innings.

His knock included 16 fours and 15 sixes and was just his seventh List A game since making his debut in December 2024.

It is the latest achievement in a record-breaking year for Suryavanshi, who first shot to global fame in April when he smashed his first ball in the Indian Premier League for six.

He then became the youngest player to hit a century in men’s T20s when he made a 35-ball hundred for Rajasthan Royals against Gujarat Titans.

It was also the second-fastest century in IPL history behind Chris Gayle’s 30-ball ton in 2013.

In July, he struck the fastest recorded century in a youth one-day international, making 143 from 78 balls as India beat England by 55 runs at Worcester.

He took 52 balls to reach three figures, bettering Kamran Ghulam’s 53-ball effort for Pakistan against England in 2013.

Four months later, he struck a 32-ball century in India A’s victory against the United Arab Emirates in their Asia Cup Rising Stars T20 match – the joint-fifth fastest hundred in all men’s T20s. He was eventually dismissed for 144 from 42 balls. (BBC)

  • Archer ruled out of Ashes, Bethell replaces Pope

Archer ruled out of Ashes, Bethell replaces Pope

Pace bowler Jofra Archer has been ruled out of the remainder of the Ashes series in another huge blow to England on a wretched tour of Australia.

The 30-year-old, who returned to Test cricket after a four-year absence in July, has suffered a side strain.

He will miss the fourth Test in Melbourne on Boxing Day, and the fifth Test in Sydney in the new year.

Archer’s place in the England XI is taken by Gus Atkinson, while Ollie Pope is finally dropped and replaced by Jacob Bethell.

Archer has been England’s standout performer in a desperate series in which they are 3-0 down after three matches.

The Sussex man has taken nine wickets, and also registered his maiden half-century in the third Test in Adelaide.

It is a huge disappointment for Archer, who spent years battling elbow and back injuries in order to return to Test cricket.

He made his comeback against India at Lord’s five months ago and has played five Tests before being hit by another injury.

Archer will return to the UK after the fourth Test to be assessed, after which a decision can be made on his availability for the T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka, beginning in February.

“The effort that he’s put in over these three games has been exceptional,” said captain Ben Stokes.

“There were a lot of question marks around his ability or whatever it may be coming out to Australia, and he’s put in a great effort for the team.”

Archer took 5-53 in Australia’s first innings in Adelaide, his first five-wicket haul in Test cricket for six years.

However, he was limited to only 12.4 overs in Australia’s second innings, and a scan on Tuesday in Melbourne revealed the side injury.

England have already lost fellow pace bowler Mark Wood to injury on this tour, meaning a call-up for Surrey’s Matthew Fisher. There are currently no plans to add another seamer to the squad.

Two Bloomfield families get home improvement support from Men on Mission

Two families in Bloomfield Village, Corentyne, Berbice, are experiencing a transformation of their homes thanks to the Men on Mission (MOM) initiative.

On Tuesday, Minister of Agriculture Hon. Zulfikar Mustapha officially handed over new houses to 52-year-old Savibree Moteelall, who has a disability, and 34-year-old Nalini Bissessar.

Minister Mustapha alongside Tony Ameerally and Aubrey David, who are members of the MOM team, helped construct the homes.

He highlighted the initiative’s ongoing commitment to assisting many families across the nation, particularly vulnerable individuals.

He emphasised, “These families will now enjoy better facilities, a place where they can be more comfortable. We will continue to see what help we can give them in the future.”

Moteelall, who previously resided alone in a one-bedroom wooden house, expressed her gratitude regarding the positive changes brought by the new construction.

“Me glad for the help. Me glad for the Government help as well,” she said.

Bissessar, who shares her home with her husband, four daughters, son-in-law, and elderly aunt, also expressed her gratitude for how much their new home has changed.

“I am thankful because the old house was so shaky,” she revealed.

President Ali swears in Justice Rafiq Khan as 7th appellate judge

Senior Counsel Rafiq Turhan Khan was officially sworn in as a Justice of Appeal during a ceremony held on Tuesday at State House, presided over by President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali.

The appointment follows a recommendation by the Judicial Service Commission and is made in accordance with Article 128(1) of the Constitution of Guyana. Justice Khan’s swearing-in completes one of the seven appointments to the Court of Appeal announced earlier this year, marking the first time such a significant number of judges were appointed to the appellate court simultaneously.

Delivering remarks at the ceremony, President Ali highlighted the critical role of the Court of Appeal within Guyana’s judicial system, describing it as a central safeguard in the administration of justice. The Court, he noted, serves as an essential intermediary between the High Court and Guyana’s apex court, the Caribbean Court of Justice, ensuring consistency, accountability, and the correction of judicial errors.

“The right of appeal must remain a fundamental pillar of due process,” President Ali stated, emphasising that the appellate system protects against arbitrary decision-making and reinforces public confidence in the rule of law.

“With this appointment, we are not only securing the service of a jurist of exceptional calibre but also advancing judicial efficiency to ensure timely hearings and well-reasoned judgements,” the President said.

He added that access to fair and expeditious justice is vital to civic trust and social cohesion.
