British Superbike rider Dan Linfoot has officially confirmed his return to Guyana for the Caribbean Clash of Champions on November 2 at the South Dakota Circuit, and this time, he will not be alone.

Joining him will be fellow British rider Gregg Black, as both will represent Team GuyAmerica in the Superbike class, adding an international edge to the event’s 70th anniversary celebrations.

Linfoot, who made history in 2024 with a record-breaking 1:15.534 lap, returns with unfinished business to push the limits of speed once more.

This year, he will be riding a locally built 1000cc superbike from Two Wheel Performance in a remarkable exhibition lap record run, where he will attempt to reset the overall South Dakota Circuit record.

The machine, built by former racer and performance engineer Maurice Menezes, showcases the growing technical capabilities of Guyana’s motorsport industry.

His teammate Black brings his own world-class experience as a World Endurance Champion with the Suzuki Endurance Racing Team (SERT). Together, Linfoot and Black form the core of Team GuyAmerica, a collaboration that bridges British expertise with Guyanese innovation, highlighting Guyana’s rise on the international motorsport stage.

They will line up against top local riders, including Matthew Vieira, Nicholas Boodram and Kevin Persaud, ensuring fierce competition and spectacular action for fans.

On November 2, all eyes will be on the South Dakota Circuit as Linfoot takes to the track aboard the Two Wheel Performance superbike in a bid to break his own record, while Black joins the grid for high-speed Superbike action in what promises to be an unforgettable Caribbean Clash of Champions.

A responsible fifty from opener and captain Matthew Nandu and a four-wicket haul from West Indies Under-19 all-rounder Jonathan Van Lange spurred defending champions Demerara to a solid 50-run win over Essequibo in Game One of the Queensway Security Service Inc. Senior Super50 Inter-County Cup on Saturday at the Joe Jagmohan Ground in Hampton Court, Essequibo.

Batting first, Demerara posted 229 all out from 45.2 overs, anchored by a composed 73 from Player-of-the-Match Nandu, who struck seven boundaries in his 102-ball innings.

Support for Nandu came from his Guyana Harpy Eagles teammate Raymond Perez (41 off 50 balls; 3x4s, 1×6) and opener Ushardeva Balgobin (40 off 51 balls; 7x4s), both providing crucial top-order partnerships that guided Demerara beyond the 200-run mark.

Nandu and Balgobin set Demerara on a solid foundation with an opening stand of 67 in 14.4 overs, before Nandu and Perez put on 73 for the second wicket.

At 140-1 in the 29th over, Demerara appeared on course for a far larger total than they eventually posted, but the Essequibians made regular breakthroughs in the second half of the innings to stymie the progress of the visitors.

Essequibo’s bowling effort was led by Thaddeus Lovell, who claimed 4-43 from seven overs, while the experienced pacer Ronsford Beaton took 2-29 from 7.2 overs.

Left-arm spinner Ricardo Adams bowled a tidy spell to finish with 2-39 from his 10 overs, and Keemo Paul added 1-40 from eight overs.

In reply, Essequibo struggled to build partnerships and were dismissed for 179 in 37.3 overs, after being in a position of relative strength at 70-2 in the 12th over.

Paul top-scored with 30 from 32 balls, including two sixes, opener Kevon Boodie raced to 29 off 19 (7x4s), Antony Adams made 25, Lovell 24 and Myheim Khan an unbeaten 22.

Skipper Kemol Savory and Guyana Amazon Warriors batting hero Quentin Sampson, on whom much was expected, fell for 14 and a first-ball duck respectively.

Medium-pacer Van Lange dented the run-chase with three wickets in the 13th over, reducing Essequibo from 71-3 to 72-6, as he removed Kanhaiya Ramkarran for 12, and Sampson and Ricardo Adams, both without scoring.

He finished with 4-35 from eight overs, supported by off-spinner Richie Looknauth with 3-23 from seven overs. Left-arm spinner Ashmead Nedd (1-33 from 10 overs) and seamer Ronaldo Ali Mohamed (1-49 from seven overs) also chipped in to complete a disciplined bowling effort.

The Guyana Badminton Association (GBA) is pleased to announce the results from Days Two and Three of its National Badminton Tournament, held this during the week at the Guyana National Gymnasium.

Competitors across the junior and senior categories battled fiercely in the quarter-finals and semi-finals, producing thrilling matches and standout performances.

In the Women’s Singles semi-final, Priyanna Ramdhani bested Ashley Khalil 21-12, 21-7 to secure a spot in the Women’s final, where she will meet Mishka Beharry who bested Leshaunte Berkley 21-14, 21-10.

On the Men’s side, Akili Haynes defeated Frank Waddell 21-3, 16-21, 21-16 to advance to the final, where he will face Tyrese Jeffrey, who defeated Nkosi Beaton 21-17, 21-15.

The junior divisions highlighted a promising generation of rising talent, with players demonstrating remarkable skill, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the competition.

Speaking on the event’s success, a representative of the GBA expressed gratitude to all participants, officials, coaches, and supporters for their unwavering commitment, noting that their collective efforts continue to strengthen the development of badminton across Guyana.

The new SOMA hotel and restaurant in Houston, Greater Georgetown, opened on Saturday, creating between 60 to 100 direct and indirect jobs and boosting Guyana’s hospitality sector.

SOMA is a venture by TOTALTEC, a Guyanese-owned company in the oil and gas and logistics sectors.

“When we first imagined SOMA, we wanted to create more than a hotel or restaurant. We wanted to create a place of purpose,” TOTALTEC’s Chief Executive Officer Lars Mangal said.

This first phase of SOMA will create 60 to 100 direct and indirect jobs for Guyanese men and women, across hotel operations, food and beverage services, and maintenance. The project also supports a network of local suppliers and service providers, aligning with Guyana’s local content goals and national workforce development priorities.

As the project scales, TOTALTEC plans to expand SOMA across other key regions of development in Guyana — offering affordable, high-quality accommodation and dining experiences that support business travelers, professionals, and industrial clients throughout the country.

Guyana’s President, Dr. Irfaan Ali hailed the investment and noted that such private-led ventures bode well for the country. Dr. Ali said his administration is focused on transforming Guyana into a well-diversified economy, and the tourism and hospitality sector will help with this goal.

APNU’s lead Parliamentarian Terrence Campbell defended his party members’ actions a day before in the vote for a new Chairman of the Regional Democratic Council (RDC), stating that WIN’s candidate, Mark Goring was “unpopular and arrogant.”

The election of a new Chairman for the Region 10 Regional Democratic Council (RDC) ended in a tie on Friday, after the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) and Forward Guyana Movement (FGM) councillors voted alongside the A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) in support of its nominee, Dominique Blair.

Blair, the APNU’s candidate, secured nine votes, the same number as Mark Goring of the We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) party.

It was reported that WIN and APNU mulled a partnership in the region but those talks broke down. In the absence of that agreement, Campbell explained, APNU went on to serve the interest of the party and its supporters.

“It is rich for anyone to come and say that in the absence of an agreement, the APNU must not push its candidates to the highest offices in the region,” he said in a Facebook video.

Beyond that, however, Campbell suggested that the WIN candidate could not’ve gotten APNU’s or the other parties’ support.

“Their own candidate in Region 10 was a deeply unpopular and arrogant candidate, unpopular even amongst WIN councillors and this is why the other parties decided to support us,” he said.

Before the elections, Goring had referred to himself as the Chairman-elect but there was no such title before the convening.

For the APNU lead Parliamentarian, the newcomer WIN must do some introspection and learn how to collaborate. That would be particularly crucial, he said, in the National Assembly.

According to the Official Gazette, following the 2025 General and Regional Elections, the distribution of seats in Region 10 was as follows: WIN – 9 seats, APNU – 5 seats, PPP/C – 3 seats, and Forward Guyana – 1 seat.

This outcome means that the PPP/C’s three councillors and the Forward Guyana representative joined APNU’s five votes to support Blair’s bid for the Chairmanship—an alignment that effectively blocked WIN’s majority advantage in the region.

Region 10, officially known as Upper Demerara–Upper Berbice, has traditionally been considered a stronghold of the APNU, but WIN’s performance in the 2025 polls reshaped the political landscape, granting it the largest single bloc of council seats.

West Indies gave a better account of themselves with the bat than in Ahmedabad, but India still remained in control of the Delhi Test after Shubman Gill scored his 10th Test hundred and declared midway through the day at 518 -5.

In response, West Indies put on their first half-century stand of the series – a contrast to at least 57 for every wicket for India in this Test, Alick Athanaze posted their highest individual score of 41 and they went 43 overs with the loss of four wickets.

It was an improvement after they failed to bat 50 overs in either of their innings in Ahmedabad, but they still needed 179 to avoid the follow-on.

The day began on a sour note for India when the voracious Yashasvi Jaiswal was run-out after he had added just two to his overnight 173. He was quite demonstrative in letting his partner, Gill, know it was his call and that he should be looking at him and not the ball.

However, Jaiswal had hit the ball to mid-off a little too well, and Gill had been quick to turn his back. Jaiswal, though, kept going, and left himself no opportunity to recover.

The ever-calm Gill took it in his stride, and – at least for the spectators – more than made up for the run-out with sumptuous strokeplay to bring up his fifth century in just seven Tests as captain. For company he had 40s from Nitish Kumar Reddy, promoted so he can play some role in home Tests, and Dhruv Jurel, whose dismissal brought about the declaration.

For most part, Gill hardly played a shot in anger. When the seamers produced a mildly testing spell in the morning, Gill prospered with short-arm cuts and defensive pushes for boundaries into the leg side, often after stepping out of the crease.

He brought up his half-century with slight abandon, a lovely flick through midwicket. When Justin Greaves tried to mix cutters, he picked one even as he stepped out and then lofted him for a six.

Reddy, who bowled just four overs in the first match and didn’t get to bat, was sent in at No. 5 so that India can give him time in the middle and give him every opportunity to develop into an allrounder when he is next needed overseas.

It wasn’t the smoothest of innings, with an early edge falling short, but featured two sixes against the turn before a third attempt ended it on 43 off 54.

Jurel was a more reliable ally, once again showing good judgement of length against spin. He preferred to press forward in preparation to face the ball, but was quick to rock back every time the spinners dropped short.

Gill strolled through to his hundred before flicking into a higher gear, scoring 27 off 19 after reaching the landmark. In trying to match Gill’s pace, Jurel tried to manufacture a pull and was bowled off Roston Chase, the first man other than Jomel Warrican to take a wicket.

Gill pulled the plug on the innings with that dismissal. Unbeaten, he now averaged 43.47 in Tests and 84.81 as captain. No India captain has scored more hundreds in a year than Gill’s five after he took over practically in the second half of 2025.

Averaging 20 over the last 40 innings, the West Indies opening wicket failed to change that number either way, although this time they were unlucky. John Campbell and Tagenarine Chanderpaul had looked comfortable against pace.

Campbell welcomed Ravindra Jadeja’s spin with a paddle-swept boundary, but the next sweep, nailed off the middle of the bat, hit the short leg’s helmet and lodged itself in the fielder’s arms. B Sai Sudharsan, the fielder, stayed off the field for the rest of the day, but had brought about a breakthrough.

Chanderpaul and Athanaze then put together West Indies’ most assured phase with the bat, using their feet, sweeping, lofting down the ground, and then Chanderpaul was beaten in the air by a quick Jadeja delivery, which he steered for a sharp catch at first slip.

Athanaze then hit Kuldeep Yadav’s first ball of a new spell straight to midwicket, having got too close to the pitch of the ball on this slog-sweep. Captain Roston Chase tamely flicked one back to Jadeja.

In the stands, Viv Richards and Brian Lara were seen gesturing he should have defended it with the turn and not flicked against it.

Zhuangshui Xu, a 38-year-old Chinese businessman, was robbed by three men on Friday at his Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara supermarket.

Police Headquarters reported that the man was robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash and about $50,000 worth of phone cards at about 20:44 hrs Friday.

The businessman reportedly told investigators that he was in the supermarket behind the cashier counter, cashing customers, when he observed the suspects entering the supermarket. One of the suspects was dressed in a camouflage hoodie and dark colour pants with a black cloth around his face and armed with a handgun. Another one wore a grey and blue long-sleeve jersey and blue pants with blue cloth around his face and was armed with a knife, while the third suspect was dressed in a long-sleeve blue jersey and dark colour pants with a grey cloth around his face, and was armed with a cutlass.

The businessman said the suspects approached him and demanded that he hand over the cash to them. One of the suspects entered the cashier area and took out the day’s sales from the cash register and placed the cash in a black plastic bag along with the Digicel and GT&T phone cards. The suspects then made good their escape on foot in an unknown direction.

Several persons were questioned, as investigations continue.

A couple and their granddaughter were reportedly injured on Friday afternoon after their neighbour became violent at a traffic stop at Land of Canaan, East Bank Demerara.

Police reported that 53-year-old Indira Thomas and her husband, 68-year-old William Thomas, went to a daycare and playgroup at Friendship, EBD, at about 15:30 hrs, to pick up their granddaughter.

As they were returning home, they were stuck in the traffic at Land of Canaan, East Bank Demerara, and got into an argument with 68-year-old Wilfred Aaron. The Thomas’s and Aaron are reportedly neighbours in Coverden, EBD.

Aaron reportedly hurled several expletives at Williams and allegedly threatened to kill him. So Williams then stepped out of his vehicle and approached the suspect, in an apparent attempt to assess the situation. The suspect then armed himself with a knife and attacked the businessman, causing him to receive injuries to his abdomen and ear.

Police said Indira, who tried to part the fight, received injuries on her elbow, hand, palm, and cuts on three fingers on her right hand. The toddler was also injured. However, an onlooker, who rendered assistance to the family after the attack, told the News Room that Indira and the child remained in the car but were attacked by Aaron.

Williams managed to enter his motor car and head to the Diamond Regional Hospital soon after, where he and his relatives were all seen and examined by a doctor on duty, treated, and sent away.

A 30-year-old resident of Non Pariel, East Coast Demerara, was shot and robbed of his valuables early Saturday morning.

Police Headquarters reported that the incident occurred just after midnight at Annandale, ECD.

Several people, including the victim, were attending the wake of the late Eagon Williams in Annandale. The 30-year-old reportedly told investigators that while at the wake, he left the gathering to urinate a short distance away, and whilst doing so, he observed that the two perpetrators were approaching him.

As a result, he turned and ran in the direction towards the ‘wake house’, but the perpetrators caught up with him, held him at gunpoint, and demanded money.

The victim resisted them, but one of the suspects, who was armed with a gun, shot him once in his right thigh, causing him to fall to the ground. The suspects then relieved him of his haversack, which contained his cell phone, worth approximately $40,000, and personal documents.

The men then made good their escape on the motorcycle.

The victim was subsequently picked up by residents attending the wake and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was admitted as a patient and was due to undergo surgery.
