In the wake of the recent devastating hurricane, BritCham Guyana and Maxi Priest have joined forces to rally support from businesses and individuals across the Caribbean, the UK, Guyana, and the global community to assist with recovery and rebuilding efforts in Jamaica.

Chairman of BritCham Guyana, Faizal Khan, and Maxi Priest have agreed to dedicate the networking segment of the BritCham Guyana Business Forum & Networking Event—taking place on Thursday, 6th November 2025 at Chelsea Football Club’s Stamford Bridge—to a special fundraising initiative.

The evening will feature:
– A live charity auction
– Displays of exclusive memorabilia
– Cultural and sporting showcases, including iconic trophies, to inspire generosity and unity

All proceeds raise will go directly toward organizations coordinating hurricane relief efforts on the ground in Jamaica.

BritCham Guyana encourages all companies and individuals attending to support the cause by making donations at the event or providing pledges toward the relief initiative.

A 62-year-old businesswoman of North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, was detained by Police after suspected cocaine and cannabis were discovered in her possession during a search at the Itaballi Police Checkpoint on Sunday.

Police Headquarters said the discovery was made at about 08:28 hrs by ranks who were on duty when motor pickup, driven by a 38-year-old man of Byderabo Road, Bartica, approached the checkpoint.

During a search, Police said, a multicoloured bag that the businesswoman had around her neck was searched and it contained several parcels with suspected cocaine. There were also other parcels containing leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis.

She was subsequently arrested. The suspected cocaine weighed 261 grams, while the cannabis weighed 102 grams. Both were placed in transparent plastic evidence bags, sealed, marked, and lodged. The woman remains in custody as investigations continue.

A badly decomposed body was found on October 26, 2025, in a grassy area along a track at No. 43 Village Seashore, Corentyne, Berbice.

According to reports, a 31-year-old fisherman from No. 35 Village was walking along the seashore after his fishing boat became stuck at sea due to low tide. While making his way through a track toward the public road, he detected a strong stench and discovered the remains.

Police ranks visited and processed the scene before escorting the body to the Port Mourant Public Hospital. Due to the advanced state of decomposition, the cause of death could not be immediately determined.

The remains have been placed in cold storage at Ramoo’s Funeral Home pending identification and a post-mortem examination. Investigations are continuing.

A 56-year-old labourer of Belvedere, Corentyne, Berbice was found motionless in his home on Sunday.

The Police, in a statement, said the man was identified as Imran Kadir, known as “Shut Pon Shoulder.”

The incident is believed to have occurred between Saturday, November 1, and Sunday, November 2, 2025.

Investigations revealed that Kadir and the suspect, a 32-year-old carpenter from the same community, were reportedly drinking together when an argument started. The next morning, Kadir was found lying motionless at his home, and the matter was reported to the police.

The suspect has since been arrested and is assisting with the investigation, which remains ongoing.

Left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie will miss the West Indies upcoming five-match T20 series against New Zealand ‘following a recent dip in form’, Cricket West Indies (CWI) said on Sunday.

In explaining the omission of the Guyanese, CWI, in a press release to announce the squad for the tour, pointed to a technical issue with his action, which will now see him working with specialists through a collaboration with the Royals Sports Group.

Cricket West Indies has announced the squad for the five (5) T20 Internationals against New Zealand scheduled for November 5-13.

The Men in Maroon sojourn to New Zealand on November 1 following the T20 series triumph over Bangladesh and will continue to fine tune preparations for the ICC T20 World Cup in 2026, with the nucleus of the squad being retained from the previous series.

Matthew Forde, who suffered a shoulder injury in the summer has been recalled after successfully completing the rehabilitation and return-to-play protocols process.

He will be joined by Shamar Springer, who has been included to bolster a seam bowling unit which has suffered several recent injuries, including Ramon Simmons and Jediah Blades, who have both been ruled out for this series.

Left-arm spinner, Gudakesh Motie, will also miss the series following a recent dip in form attributed primarily to a technical issue with his action.

With conditions in New Zealand not expected to be as conducive to spin bowling, the opportunity will be taken for him to work with specialists, through collaboration with the Royals Sports Group – owners of the Paarl Royals franchise South Africa, prior to his participation in December’s SA20 to address the issue and rebuild confidence ahead of the T20 World Cup, where he is expected to play a key role.

A significant addition has also been made to the management team, with Clinical Psychologist Krisnan Hurdle coming on board as Mental Skills and Performance Coach starting with the New Zealand tour.

Plans for this appointment were first announced during CWI’s Quarterly Media briefing held on October 1, after being identified as one of the immediate action items coming out of the emergency Cricket Strategy and Officiating Committee meeting held in August.

Director of Cricket Miles Bascombe explained that the appointment of Hurdle is a strategic move to align with global practices while enhancing output for our senior team in the international arena.

“The addition of a Mental Skills and Performance Coach reflects our commitment to developing the complete cricketer. At the elite level, success is as much about mindset and composure as it is about technical ability. Strengthening this area ensures that our players are provided with the necessary non-technical support geared towards equipping them to manage pressure and maintain focus.”

Guyana will compete in four disciplines- Boxing, Swimming, Table Tennis and Track and Field- at the sixth Islamic Solidarity Games, slated for November 5-21 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) on Sunday announced the full contingent of athletes and officials who will represent the nation at the multi-sport event, which brings together athletes from over 57 member states of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation.

The Games will feature over 270 events across 19 disciplines, including Athletics, Boxing, Swimming, Table Tennis and Weightlifting, as well as emerging disciplines such as Esports and Para Sports.

Guyana will once again proudly participate in the sixth edition of the Islamic Solidarity Sports Association (ISSA) Games, scheduled to be held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from November 5-21, 2025.

Following its debut at the first edition in 2005, Guyana will field a competitive contingent to represent the nation at this prestigious multisport event, which brings together athletes from over 57 member states of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

The Islamic Solidarity Games is a unique concept designed to foster unity, friendship, and cultural exchange among athletes of the Islamic world and beyond, promoting mutual understanding and solidarity through the universal language of sport.

Guyana’s participation marks a continuation of its growing engagement in international multi-sport competitions under the leadership of the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA), which remains committed to providing pathways for athletes to gain exposure, experience, and excellence on the world stage.

About the Games 

The Games will feature over 270 events across 19 disciplines, including Athletics, Boxing, Swimming, Table Tennis and Weightlifting, as well as emerging disciplines such as Esports and Para Sports.

Competitions will take place across four main venue clusters- Boulevard, Olympic Complex, Al Janadriyah and Malaz- all designed to ensure world-class facilities, sustainability and a seamless experience for athletes and spectators alike.

This year’s Games continue the tradition of promoting solidarity, cultural diversity and peace through sport, providing an opportunity for athletes to compete at elite levels while showcasing their nations’ talents and values.

This will be the second time Saudi Arabia hosts the event, the first being the inaugural games in 2005. The event is returning to its usual four-year cycle after the 2021 games in Konya, Turkey, was postponed to 2022 due to the pandemic.

Guyana’s team will be led by Chef de Mission Garfield Wiltshire, with Nalini McKoy serving as Assistant Chef de Mission.

GOA President Godfrey Munroe and Vice-President Cristy Campbell will attend the ISSA Annual General Assembly.

Chelsea Edghill, Chairperson of the GOA Athletes’ Commission, will represent Guyana at the Athletes’ Commission Session, where she will exercise voting rights on behalf of the nation.

The team is set to get into action with Boxing on November 5-10, followed by Table Tennis (November 8-12), Swimming (November 8-12) and Track and Field (November 17-20).

The Golden Arrowhead soared high in Trinidad and Tobago at the 2025 Caribbean Development Championship (CDC), where Team Guyana delivered an exceptional display of talent, precision and teamwork, amassing an incredible 44 medals across Individual, Doubles and Mixed Team events in the annual archery tournament.

The Guyanese copped 22 gold, 12 silver and 10 bronze medals.

This outstanding performance at the seventh CDC firmly establishes Guyana as a regional powerhouse in the sport of Archery, with Guyanese athletes excelling across multiple divisions, bow types and classes from beginners to senior categories.

Guyana fielded 31 athletes of the 262 total archers hailing from 11 countries, together with 11 Officials, including parents and other athlete support personnel.

Shooting the Individual Qualification round on October 24 at the Marvin Lee Stadium, the archers not only managed to out rank many in their categories, some were able to crush standing records once again leaving their names etched in the World Archery Americas Tournament as others did before them.

The team’s remarkable performance was expertly guided by Team Manager and Head Coach Ryan McKinnon, a World Archery Level Two Certified Coach.

“His leadership both on and off the field played a pivotal role in maintaining focus, team discipline, fostering unity among the team, and ensuring that every archer was mentally and technically prepared for competition,” Archery Guyana said in a press release.

President of Archery Guyana, Mrs. Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon, expressed immense pride in the team’s historic results: “This is a monumental moment for Archery Guyana Inc and for our nation. Our athletes have shown remarkable discipline, resilience, and unity, both on and off the field. To see so many Guyanese archers standing on the podium, including our youth, truly reflects the success of our developmental pathway and the dedication of our coaches and officials.”

She extended heartfelt thanks to the Guyana Olympic Association, the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, National Sports Commission, and sponsors, including Guyana Beverages Inc., Massy Gas Products Inc., and other partners such as the Guyana Police Force, GRA Customs, and the athletes support personnel whose continued support made the team’s participation and success possible.

The Caribbean Development Championships, run by Continental Judges of World Archery Americas, is the region’s premier developmental tournament, bringing together archers from across the Caribbean, Latin America and South America to foster high-level competition and cultural exchange in this teaching tournament.

The tournament was officially handed over to Archery Guyana for the 2026 instalment by the Trinidad and Tobago Archery Federation.

President of the TTAF, Hasmat Ali in the handover to Archery Guyana’s Assistant Secretary Ryan McKinnon wished the Guyana Federation all success in hosting the 2026 tournament in Guyana.

Archery Guyana added: “Guyana’s remarkable 44-medal finish of the 2025 event along with our athletes continuing to shoot several record breaking scores in Caribbean archery establishes strong foothold in the sport in our region.

“This reflects the functioning of the country’s investment in youth development, training, coaching, officiating and all-inclusive growth under the Federation: Archery Guyana’s strategic plan.”

Francis Diago Alivera, a Brazilian national and gold miner, 34, was fatally stabbed during an altercation on Saturday at Sandhill Landing, Cuyuni River, Region Seven.

Police Headquarters on Sunday said initial enquiries indicate that Alivera and the suspect, a 24-year-old Brazilian national, were known to each other and had been socialising prior to the incident. An argument reportedly broke out during the early hours of the morning, during which the suspect allegedly armed himself with a knife and inflicted multiple injuries on Alivera.

The injured miner was assisted by public-spirited persons and taken to a nearby mining outpost for initial treatment before being transferred to the Bartica Regional Hospital, where he later succumbed.

Crime scene investigators recovered a knife suspected to have been used in the attack.

Several persons were interviewed, and statements obtained. The suspect fled the scene and is currently being sought.

The body is at the Bartica Regional Hospital mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination. Investigations are ongoing.

A 17-year-old labourer of Cane Grove, East Coast Demerara was fatally stabbed on Saturday and his body was found by his co-workers.

According to Police Headquarters, an investigation was launched over the alleged murder of the boy identified as Gaurav Bhagwan of Cane Grove.

The incident occurred around 21:30hrs on Saturday at Loo Creek, Soesdyke-Linden Highway.

Reports indicate that Bhagwan and several co-workers were engaged in a road and drainage project when a loud scream was heard. Upon checking, one of the workers discovered Bhagwan lying motionless with apparent stab wounds.

A 36-year-old labourer from La Belle Alliance, Essequibo Coast, was reportedly found nearby and restrained by colleagues until police arrived. He is now in custody assisting with the investigation.

Bhagwan was taken to the Diamond Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His body is at the hospital mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.

Police investigations are continuing.

Three men are currently hospitalised with serious injuries following an accident that occurred along the Industry Public Road, commonly known as the Number 19 Road, in East Coast Berbice on Friday night.

The injured individuals are: Ganesh Singh, 24, of Hope Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice; Ronald Scott, 25, of Lot 4 Kildonan, Corentyne, Berbice; and Cloyd Davis, 26, of Lot 10 J. Limlair, Corentyne, Berbice

Reports indicate that around 22:00 hrs, motor car PAG 4678, driven by Scott with Davis as a passenger, was traveling east in the northern lane. At the same time, motor car PAB 7500, driven by Singh, was heading west in the southern lane. Singh reportedly lost control of his vehicle and collided with the front right side of Scott’s car, which was in the northern lane.

As a result of the collision, Scott’s vehicle ended up on the northern side of the road facing west, while Singh’s car landed in a trench on the southern side.

According to the information gathered, Scott, Singh, and Davis all sustained injuries. The police and Emergency Medical Technicians from the New Amsterdam Fire Station were contacted and arrived on the scene. They had to cut parts of Scott’s vehicle to extract him. He was then transported to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital in an unconscious state, where he and the others were examined by a doctor and are currently receiving treatment.

Reports indicate that a breathalyser test administered to Singh at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital showed readings of 61 and 69 micrograms of alcohol in his breath.

Singh is admitted to the Male Surgical Ward, while Scott is in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and is reported to be in stable condition.

On Saturday at approximately 06:30 hrs, Davis was transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital for further medical attention.

Investigations into the accident are ongoing.
