Lawyer died from stab wound to the neck- autopsy
Layne was found dead in his car outside his Century Palm Gardens, D’Urban Backlands, Georgetown house on Wednesday night.
The discovery was made after he returned home with Harding from purchasing coffee at MovieTowne, Georgetown. Harding later left and went to his Eccles, East Bank Demerara residence.
Hours after, Sulker got up from bed to use the washroom and then went into the kitchen. While in the kitchen, he reportedly looked through a window and saw Layne’s car parked on the bridge of the premises. Layne was sitting in the driver seat in a “slumped position” and was motionless.
Police on Friday said that Layne’s friend, Tony Sulker, a 29-year-old Police Sergeant, and Layne’s cousin, Michael Harding were detained for questioning in relation to the crime.
Both men were released on Thursday night. The investigation continues but no one is currently in Police custody.

Culture : « Yon fwa l ap ye », le nouveau vidéo-clip du groupe « Chwam »
La jeune formation musicale « Chwam » ne s’est pas laissée emporter par la crise sociopolitique qui prévaut dans le pays depuis des années. En effet, après avoir sorti son premier album studio baptisé “Moun chè” en début de janvier, « Chwam » vient de soumettre à l’appréciation du grand public son deuxième vidéoclip. Après avoir savouré avec appétit “Nannan” sorti début de juin, les mélomanes viennent d’être à nouveau servis. “Yon fwa l ap ye”, un autre tube sur l’album, vidéoclipé, est à déguster sur toutes les plateformes, avec bien sûr la collaboration de la jeune chanteuse Sybille Calixte.
En plein été, cette fièvre des fêtes champêtre et des soirées partout dans le pays ne se sent plus. C’est un pays agonisant où tous les secteurs sont victimes de la conjoncture. Le secteur culturel, lui aussi est asphyxié par cette crise dévastatrice. Malgré tout, cette jeune formation musicale refuse de baisser les bras.
Ce groupe a sorti son premier album en début d’année, et six mois plus tard l’un des tracks sur l’opus a été vidéoclipé. Malgré une conjoncture délétère, le staff et les musiciens ont décidé d’offrir au grand public une vidéo. Cette fois, c’est la chanson “Yon fwa l ap ye” qui a été choisie.
Ce track, avec la conjugaison des voix du chanteur principal du groupe, en l’occurrence Ricardo Mercier, et Sybille Calixte, fait déjà le délice des mélomanes, fans et internautes.Le lundi 6 août 2024, « Chwam » a publié son deuxième clip sur album.
Joint au téléphone, Alex Léon l’un des responsables du groupe regrette avoir renoncé à de nombreux contrats en raison de la situation sécuritaire du pays qui s’aggrave au jour le jour. Toutefois, il promet au grand public et aux fans du groupe « Chwam » de travailler sans relâche pour les divertir malgré tout.En fin d’interview, Alex Léon a dit espérer que la situation s’améliorera pour les fêtes de fin d’année afin que « Chwam » puisse offrir des prestations les unes plus intéressantes et mémorables que les autres pour le plaisir de leurs milliers de fans à travers le monde. Le manager adjoint invite les mélomanes à acheter l’album déjà disponible sur toutes les plateformes en ligne et savourer toutes les dernières vidéos du groupe déjà disponibles sur YouTube.

De Zorzi, the Proteas’ opening batter, was dismissed for 78 before lunch, while Bavuma was dismissed late in the day for 86, allowing West Indies to gradually claw their way back into the contest. Wiaan Mulder, not out on 37, and Kagiso Rabada, on 12, will resume batting for South Africa on Friday’s third day.
Jomel Warrican has been the pick of the Caribbean bowlers so far with 3-66, with Kemar Roach (2-53) and Jayden Seales (2-57) also picking up key wickets.
Resuming at 45-1 on a slow pitch that requires patience instead of flair, South Africa were initially kept quiet by West Indies’ senior seamers Roach and Jason Holder, who started on good lengths but were punished as soon as they strayed.
While de Zorzi, who resumed on 32, got to his 50 off 78 balls, Tristan Stubbs (20) didn’t have the same luck as he edged a delivery from Roach to Holder in the slip cordon, adding only 18 to his overnight score of two.
Bavuma, in his first Test innings since March 2023, and de Zorzi kept West Indies at bay with a 51-run third wicket stand, which was eventually broken when the latter gloved to Kavem Hodge off Warrican shortly before the lunch interval.
After the break, Bavuma again dropped anchor and allowed his partner, David Bedingham, to take the fight to West Indies in a partnership worth 50 runs. Bedingham (29) later holed out to debutant Keacy Carty off Seales.
Ryan Rickelton (19) came and went shortly after watching Bavuma raise his 21st Test fifty. However, the captain was later trapped in front, and as the day drew to a close, Warrican struck twice, removing Kyle Vereynne (39) and Keshav Maharaj (0) to keep West Indies in contention. (Sportsmax)

Essequibo man charged after found with counterfeit money
Anand Alphonso, called ‘Dolo’, a 43-year-old Labourer of Lima Housing Scheme, Essequibo Coast, was charged with ‘possession of forged currency note’.
He was arrested on Tuesday at Lima Housing Scheme and charged on Wednesday. The case was heard at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court before Tamieka Clarke, where the charge was read to Alphonso.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge. The prosecutor objected to bail, and Alphonso was remanded to prison.
The case was adjourned to the August 27, 2024.

Taxi driver charged with rape of young girl
Haimraj Narine, a 22-year-old taxi driver from Aberdeen, Essequibo Coast, was charged on Wednesday with ‘Rape of a Child under (16) years’, according to a statement from the Guyana Police Force,
The incident occurred on the May 13, 2023 on the Essequibo Coast.
The case hearing was held at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court before Tamieka Clarke, where a paper committal was held and all relevant statements and documents were tendered and marked as exhibits.
Magistrate Clarke ruled that based on the ‘sufficient’ evidence before the court, she is committing the accused to stand trial at the next practicable session at the Suddie Supreme Criminal Court.
Bail was granted in the sum of $150,000.
