The Kool Kidz Summer Festival made a triumphant return to Guyana on August 3, drawing a crowd of over 70 young football enthusiasts.

The event, a joint initiative by the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) and Guyana Beverages Inc. (GBI), is aimed at developing youth talent in the country.

The festival, which was held at the National Training Centre in Providence, saw eight teams compete in a series of matches. The teams included Fruta Conquerors FC, Ralph Green East Bank FC, Berbice FC, Keystart FC, Melanie FC, Beacon FC, Pouderoyen FC and Paradise Invaders FC.

GFF President Wayne Forde expressed satisfaction with the turnout and emphasized the importance of increasing female participation in future events.

The programme is divided into two phases: skills training and a mini-tournament. The goal is to provide young players with a comprehensive football experience that focuses on both technical development and competitive play

A walk and symposium was held in the Township of Bartica on Tuesday in recognition of World Breastfeeding Week which is celebrated by the United Nations (UN) from the 1^st to the 7^th of August annually. The walk commenced at the Bartica Regional Hospital compound and ended at the Bartica Centre Ground, where the symposium was held.

The walk was done to raise awareness of the importance of breastfeeding and the prevalence of breastfeeding for mothers and infants. In recognition of this, six mothers from the 4 Miles Housing Scheme were awarded tokens for exclusively breastfeeding their infants during the last year.

Present at the event was Mayor Anthony Murray Snr, the Regional Health Officer of Region Seven – Dr. Edward Sagala, representatives from the three religious communities in Bartica, Nurse Sonia Burnette-Blair, a representative from the Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI), and others along with the staff of the Bartica Regional Hospital.

According to the UN, breastfeeding is one of the most effective ways to ensure child health and survival and yet currently, fewer than half of infants under 6 months old are exclusively breastfed.

In 2018, a World Health Assembly resolution endorsed World Breastfeeding Week as an important health promotion strategy. With a different theme each year, it aims to promote the enabling environments that help women to breastfeed – including support in the community and the workplace, with adequate protections in government policies and laws – as well as sharing information on breastfeeding benefits and strategies.

[ASSOCIATED PRESS] – Chile’s President Gabriel Boric said that Maduro’s government “must understand” that the results giving him the victory “are difficult to believe,” and he added that his government won’t recognize “any result that is not verifiable.”

He said on his X account that the international community and the Venezuelan people demand “total transparency” of the tallies.

Chile’s foreign affairs minister added on X, “given the situation in Venezuela, we think its important to wait for the opinion of international observers.”

In a statement on X, Costa Rica’s President Rodrigo Chaves rejected Maduro’s win.

“We will work with the democratic countries across the continent and international organizations to achieve the respect the Venezuelan people deserve,” he said.
