These bilateral ties were established in 1972.
Foreign Secretary Robert Persaud underscored that China is an important partner to Guyana and explained the pavilion is a symbolic representation of the relationship between the two countries.
“It is a reminder that both Guyana and China have been faithful friends and faithful partners in the international scheme,” he said at a simple ceremony ahead of the official unveiling of the structure.

Moreover, the Foreign Secretary said the pavilion is a physical reminder of Chinese heritage in Guyana. The Chinese are one of Guyana’s six people.
