Bartica taxi driver charged with receiving stolen items

Marlon Jones, a 38-year-old taxi driver from Lot 106 Third Avenue, Bartica, has been charged with the offence of receiving stolen articles.

Jones was arrested on June 15, 2025, and formally charged on June 17, 2025, under Section 237(1) of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:01. The items in question reportedly belonged to Chinese national Jianmei Qiu.

The accused appeared at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday (June 18) before His Worship Teriq Mohammed, where the charge was read to him. He pleaded not guilty.

Jones was granted bail in the sum of $80,000. The matter has been adjourned to July 21, 2025.
