Man, 27, dies in mining incident
Mark Anthony Williams, a resident of Morashee Village, East Bank Essequibo, died on Tuesday after he was crushed by a tree while working in a mining pit.
According to a Police release, preliminary enquiries revealed that Williams was working in a mining pit at Three Miles, Mango Landing, along with other workers, when heavy rain and high winds began. At about 15:00 hrs, a tree reportedly fell into the pit and struck Williams, causing injuries to his head. He was taken out of the pit in an unconscious condition and was later found to be unresponsive.
The body is being escorted out of the area to a mortuary for official pronouncement and examination.
Investigations are in progress.
