Despite gritty half-centuries from left-handers Kemol Savory and Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Guyana Harpy Eagles trailed Windward Volcanoes by 29 runs by stumps of day two in their Regional Four-Day match against Windward Volcanoes at Sir Vivian Richard Stadium in Antigua and Barbuda.

Starting the day 2-0, Harpy Eagles closed on 257-9 from 86 overs in response to Volcanoes’ 286 all out on day one.

Savory faced 153 balls and struck eight fours and two sixes, while Chanderpaul faced 179 balls, hitting eight fours.

The pair added 99 for the fourth wicket, the best partnership of the innings, after Harpy Eagles were reduced to 65-3 with Matthew Nandu (4), Kevlon Anderson (4) and skipper Tevin Imlach (23) all dismissed.

Keemo Paul (1), Gudakesh Motie (19), Nial Smith (0), Isai Thorne (9) all fell cheaply, leaving Veerasammy Permaul (20*) and Raymond Perez (2*) as the last pair unbeaten at stumps.

Top-order batter Perez batted at number 11 after the shoulder injury he suffered during last year’s Super50 flared up, forcing him to miss a significant portion of the Volcanoes’ innings on the opening day.

Bowling for Volcanoes, seamer Gilon Tyson, who delivered an astonishing nine no-balls, has so far picked up 4-64 off 20 overs, off-spinner Kenneth Dember 3-48 off 21.2 and fast bowler Ryan John 2-54 off 18.
