One arrested for unlicensed firearm, ammunition

A 63-year-old man of Perseverance, Essequibo Coast, was arrested on Saturday after an unlicensed firearm was found at his residence.

Police said at about 10:30h, they were conducting an operation and acting on information received, went to a residence at Perseverance Public Road, where they contacted the 63-year-old self-employed male.

A search was conducted of his residence, during which one .45 pistol, along with one magazine containing seven live matching rounds of ammunition, was found concealed in a bedroom.

The suspect was arrested and escorted to the Anna Regina Police Station along with the firearm and ammunition where were lodged.

The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.
