Labourer, 25, remanded to prison after armed robbery 

Kumar Persaud, a 25-year-old labourer of Annandale New Scheme, East Coast Demerara, was charged after he was involved in an armed robbery.

Persaud was also charged with maliciously damaging property.

He was arrested on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, in relation to offences committed on a 30-year-old man of Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara, on May 27, 2026.

On Tuesday, he appeared before Senior Magistrate Clive Nurse at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court, where both charges were read to him.

He pleaded not guilty to the offence of Robbery Under Arms and guilty with explanation to the offence of Malicious Damage to Property.

Bail was refused on both matters, and he was remanded to prison.

The matters were adjourned to July 20, 2026.
