All roads lead to Thomas Lands on Saturday as Guyana’s packed month of motorsport shifts into standard overdrive.
The Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC) is the venue for the opening round of the Jumbo Jet events Need for Speed Karting Championship, a two-day extravaganza promising intense wheel-to-wheel drama.
The action sparks to life on Friday evening with the crucial qualifying session from 17:00h.
Drivers across 11 competitive classes—ranging from the raw potential of the Briggs Cadets and SuperMoto Juniors to the elite IAME X30 and seasoned Briggs Veterans—will battle the clock to secure vital track position.
Saturday’s Schedule of Play
Saturday is where the talking stops and the racing begins.
The pit lanes burst into life early, leading up to a relentless schedule of back-to-back heats.
- 08:00h – Pits open & scrutineering
- 08:45h – Mandatory drivers’ briefing
- 09:00h – National Anthem & final grid staging
- 09:15h – RACE START (Opening heat: Honda GX200)
Following the morning opener, races will come thick and fast at 15-minute intervals.
A brief lunchtime respite at midday will offer a tactical breather before Heat Two commences. With points at a premium and grid positions for the finals on the line, there will be absolutely zero margin for error.
The business end of the weekend begins at 15:50h after a short afternoon break.
Expect elbows-out racing as the finals take over the G5S Speedway. Every class will look to crown its round-one heroes, concluding with the podium presentations at 18:50h to honour the top three finishers.
Organisers are prepared for a bumper crowd, with a stacked grid featuring a potent mix of veteran racers and rising young talent.
While promoters have noted that the schedule remains subject to change depending on weather and track safety, the forecast is clear: high-octane entertainment. (Modified Press release)
