Following the incident that occurred Thursday, October 17 near the State University of Haiti (UEH) causing the death of two people, at the time of an demonstration along the Rivière Lane, the Rectorate want to re-establish the facts and inform the general public and the academic community that :
“According to the Rectorate’s Security Service report, the incident occurred around 3:00 pm when three men on a motorcycle ransom passersby.
They robbed three plainclothes policemen returning from work. The police had time to put them out of harm’s way. Two of the alleged bandits were killed and the other was arrested by the police. The motorcycle has been seized. Note that a gun was also found in possession of thugs.
The facts occurred when one of the branches of the demonstration on October 17 ran along the Rivière lane.
Having likened the alleged bandits to protesters, some angry individuals tried to burn the premises of the rectorate. To do this, they launched Molotov cocktails, stones, bottles, etc. Arrived at the scene, a patrol of the National Police of Haiti (PNH) was able to regain control of the situation.”

These threats will only annihilate the efforts made by our Haitian and foreign investors who believed in the high potential of Haiti, by putting their resources at the service of the development of the national tourist industry.”
While recalling that the Haitian Constitution guarantees the right of everyone to freely express their demands peacefully the Minister reminds the protesters that they have “the imperative obligation to protect Haitian companies that participate in the creation of jobs and of wealth at the national level.”
Edmond renews his commitment to continue supporting the tourism sector in consultation with other institutions at the national level, both public and private ‘in order to preserve the gains by continuing the work of repositioning the destination Haiti internationally.” -
The Haitian Government asks USA for emergency food aid
The French NGO Aid to Technical Cooperation and Development (ACTED) has been working in Haiti since 2006 to respond to chronic crisis situations, says that the agricultural, economic and socio-political situation is under tension in Haiti.
At the agricultural level, ACTED explains that the harvest yield of the spring 2019 crop (which normally accounts for half of Haiti’s annual agricultural yield) dropped dramatically following the droughts that affected almost every department of the country. The NGO estimates that the food situation of the country has deteriorated further and that 38% of the Haitian population currently needs food aid.

The Haitian Government, aware of this situation by reading many other indicators in the red, via the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bocchit Edmond asked in a letter to the US Secretary of State Michael Richard Pompeo an emergency food aid “[…] On behalf of the Government of the Republic, I urgently call for urgent assistance and logistical support from your country for the distribution of this aid […]” adding that this is a priority of President Moïse but that “the mechanisms put in place, lack of adequate financial resources have unfortunately not yet produced the expected results […]”
He underlines that the situation in Haiti with regard to food security has seriously deteriorated with the socio-political crisis that the country has been going through for several months warning “[…] the people who are hungry can not wait for the resolution of the political crisis to having access to food […] It is about of the own dignity, the sustainable development of the country as well as security and national stability […]”, finally asking the Secretary of State Pompeo to follow up from the relevant departments of the United States Government.
So far nothing has filtered from the US decision to this request.

The waters flooded the streets and paralyzed the traffic of vehicles and motorcycles, making even the crossing difficult for the penances.
Temporary partial assessment drawn up by the Deputy Mayor Délor Desgranges :
20 people evacuated to the Lycée Faustin Soulouque’s shelter;
6 houses destroyed in Chabanne and 5 near Place Soulouque;
13 head of cattle washed away;
Several streets damaged and covered with alluvium.
In addition, the Deputy Mayor appealed to the central authorities on Radio Préférence FM for equipment “[…] trucks, Backoe loader, excavators, we need this equipment for the collection of debris and clear the roads to facilitate the circulation. We also need help : food, water, clothes, mattresses for the victims whose number stands at the moment at 140 people.”
Saturday morning, Me Kébreau Zamor, touched by the cries of distress and disaster relief visited several flooded neighborhoods and distributed to victims of boots and shovels, a gesture of solidarity and humanism that was much appreciated by the victims who ask the Government to intervene immediately in Petit-Goâve, in the affected areas… -
The Haitian Conference of Religious announces a great national silent march
In a note dated Friday, the Haitian Conference of Religious (CHR) calls on the conscience of everyone, especially the Head of State, to take note of the seriousness of the hour and take a decision wise for Haiti and announces among others, a national silent march in all major cities of the country Tuesday, October 22 from 9:00 am

“- Considering today the unprecedented humanitarian crisis in which the country is in the process of tipping over;
– Considering that it is the result of a much deeper crisis affecting the very foundations of our coexistence in its political, economic, social and religious dimensions;

12 Haitians in formation in Chile, as trainers of firefighters
A team of 12 Haitians (5 firefighters from the Haitian National Police, 5 from the Association of Volunteer Firefighters of Haiti and 2 officers of the Haitian Armed Forces, left Haiti to Santiago (Chile), as part of a training of trainers of firefighters.
This comprehensive and intensive 8-week training with materials and tools is the first step towards the consolidation of a much larger Haitian Government project for the reinforcement of the first emergency response, of rescue and fire fighting.
This training will be sanctioned by an international certification was made possible thanks to the bilateral collaboration between the Haitian and Chilean governments following the visit in Haiti in March 2017 of Mrs. Michelle Bachelet then President of Chile. During the talks between the two Heads of State, President Jovenel Moïse stressed the desirability of strengthening this axis of cooperation, given the expertise of the Chileans in the field of emergency management.
Note that the curriculum, the modalities, the operationalization of the project and its adaptation to the Haitian context were the result of the reflections and work of the Chile Cooperation Agency (AGCID), the National Fire Academy of Chile and of the Directorate of Civil Protection of Haiti (DPC). This project also benefited from the support and collaboration of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Overseas Disaster Assistance Office (OFDA).
When they return home next December, the new specialists will have as their main mission to work on the training of Haitian firefighters and will be the main link in the project of creating and setting up a National Academy of Firefighters in Haiti.

Avec un personnel composé seulement de 5 membres, TELEVIZYON LAKAY arrive à desservir plus de quatre milles auditeurs quotidiennement. Accident du char du prophète Dorilas, au moins 2 blessés dans la manif
Le char musical transportant le “prophète” Mackenson Dorilas dans le cadre de la manifestation antigouvernementale de ce dimanche 20 octobre, a eu un accident cet après-midi au niveau de Pétion-ville.
La Croix-Rouge haïtienne a déjà évacué au moins deux personnes blessées, rapportent nos sources sur place.
Aucun décès n’a été enregistré suite à cet incident, selon l’équipe de la Croix-Rouge assurant l’évacuation des victimes.
Selon des témoins, ce sont les freins du véhicule qui auraient lâché et provoqué cet accident impliquant le char de l’autoproclamé prophète. Rappelons qu’il participait une journée de dimanche de marche pacifique pour exiger le départ du chef de l’Etat Jovenel Moïse qui, lui, refuse toute idée de démissionner.
Cette initiative est celle d’un groupe d’artistes dont le rappeur Izolan, les chanteurs T-Jo Zenny et Kind Kino. Des milliers de personnes prennent part à ce mouvement de mobilisation.

Des joueurs du Racing FC des Gonaïves, braqués à « Kafou Pèy »
Un bus transportant une délégation du Racing Football Club des Gonaïves a été attaqué par des individus armés, samedi 19 octobre dans la soirée à « Kafou Pèy », localité de la commune de Petite Rivière de l’Artibonite. Aucune blessé n’a été enregistré, mais les joueurs ont été dépouillés de tous leurs objets de valeur, même leurs équipements.
Les membres de la délégation revenaient du Parc Levelt de Saint-Marc, où ils disputaient un match avec le Club Baltimore dans le cadre d’un tournoi dénommé « Antistress ». Il était aux environs de 9 heures du soir, quand les joueurs du Racing FC des Gonaïves qui regagnaient leur fief, ont buté sur un groupe d’individus lourdement armés, au total six (6), dans la localité de « Kafou Pèy », Petite Rivière de l’Artibonite.
« Après avoir intercepté l’autobus, les malfrats nous ont conduit sur la route menant à Savien. Sur le chemin, nous avons été dépouillés de tous ! Heureusement, on ne nous a pas frappés », a rapporté Stevenson Guillaume alias « Ti Barezi », vice-capitaine de l’équipe.
Joint au téléphone par la rédaction de Loop Haïti, l’ailier droit de la sélection nationale masculine U-23 a souligné qu’un stock complet d’équipement a été également emporté par ces bandits armés, qui rançonnent les passants sur la nationale #1. Après leur forfait, ils ont laissé partir la délégation, qui était encore sous le choc. « Suite à la libération, les joueurs et les membres du staff technique se sont réfugiés au Commissariat de police de l’Estère », a expliqué Stevenson Guillaume.
Selon le responsable de communication et de marketing du club, Johnny Ferdinand, le tournoi dénommé « Antistress », a été mis sur pied par des dirigeants de Saint-Marc dans le but de garder en activité les clubs de première et de deuxième division évoluant dans le département de l’Artibonite, durant la période de turbulence politique.
Avec cette victoire 2-1 face au Baltimore de Saint-Marc hier samedi soir, le Racing Football Club des Gonaïves domine le groupe A de ce tournoi ». Cette competition se veut être un moyen de compenser la suspension depuis quatre (4) semaines du championnat national de première division (série clôture).

L'exécutif passe à l'action et veut revoir les taux des prêts à l’ONA
L’Office National d’Assurance-Vieillesse (ONA) annonce la révision des prêts au sein de son institution. Cette nouvelle mesure entrera en vigueur à partir du 1e novembre prochain.
Dans cet avis, la Direction Générale de l’Office National d’Assurance-Vieillesse affirme être dans l’obligation de réviser ces taux, dans le souci de faire fructifier les avoirs des cotisants de l’Office. Pour cette institution publique, il est indispensable de répondre aux réalités actuelles du marché financier et au taux d’inflation.
En ce sens, l’ONA annonce la révision des taux des prêts consentis dans le cadre des dépenses d’investissement commercial dépassant le seuil de 50 millions de gourdes. Ces prêts seront modifiés d’un taux de 16 à 20%, et les placements ayant atteint leur maturité, à un taux de 10 à 15%. « En conséquence, les concernés sont priés d’entrer en contact avec les structures concernées de l’Office, dès la parution de l’avis, pour les suites administratives nécessaires, chacun en ce qui le concerne », peut-on lire dans la note de l’ONA.
Cette nouvelle décision de l’administration Moïse, devrait être effective à partir du 1er novembre 2019, selon l’ONA. Cependant, l’organisme, à travers cet avis qui porte la signature de son directeur général Chesnel Pierre, précise que les prêts consentis au secteur agro-industriel ne sont pas concernés par cette révision.
Cette sortie de l’Office National d’Assurance-Vieillesse, qui intervient environ quatre (4) jours après que le président Jovenel Moïse a pointé du doigt certaines personnalités qui, dit-il, s’accaparent de tous les avantages offerts par l’Etat, particulièrement les prêts. Dans sa conférence de presse, Moïse avait affirmé que « le système » favorisait des prêts à 3% d’intérêt l’an pour une catégorie, et 60% l’an pour une autre. Selon lui, les bénéficiaires des prêts à 3% par année, sont les “gardiens” et les “héritiers” de ce même système.
